Charles Lewis Mathews (1824-1864) was the son of Judge George Mathews (1774-1836), justice of the Superior Court of the Territory of Orleans (1806-1813) and the Supreme Court of Louisiana (1813-1836), and Harriet Flower Mathews. His grandfather was General George Mathews (1739-1812), who fought in the Revolutionary War. Charles L.
